Dr. Shaw Stefano Somers

Dr. Shaw Stefano Somers is a highly accomplished Specialist Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon with over 26 years of experience. He currently practices at the Solent Centre for Digestive Diseases at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, UK. Dr. Somers has a distinguished academic background with degrees from the University of Leeds, including a B.Sc.(Hons) in Pathology and an M.D. in Tumor-mediated Immunosuppression. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) and has received numerous prestigious awards and fellowships throughout his career.

Dr. Somers has extensive experience in upper gastrointestinal surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and bariatric surgery, with over 350 oesophageal resections and 4000 major bariatric procedures to his name. He has played a pivotal role in establishing a center of excellence for upper gastrointestinal surgery in Portsmouth and has developed a successful NHS Bariatric Surgery Unit in the South of England.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Somers has a strong research background, with 53 peer-reviewed papers and 6 books/book chapters. He is a frequent lecturer and presenter at medical conferences and is actively involved in medico-legal and regulatory work.
