Dr. Jaime Ponce

Dr. Jaime Ponce is a highly accomplished bariatric surgeon with a wealth of experience and a track record of excellence. Born on April 19, 1965, he has dedicated his life to the field of medicine, with specific expertise in bariatric and metabolic care. He currently holds a prestigious position at CHI Memorial Metabolic and Bariatric Care in Chattanooga, TN, where he provides expert surgical interventions and leadership.

Dr. Ponce completed his medical degree, with Summa Cum Laude honors, from the School of Medicine at I.T.E.S.M., Monterrey, Mexico, in 1990. His passion for research led him to become a Research Fellow in Experimental Surgery at the Instituto Nacional de la Nutricion “Salvador Zubiran” (I.N.N.S.Z.), Mexico City. Subsequently, he moved to the United States for his General Surgery Residency at East Tennessee State University, James H. Quillen College of Medicine.

Over his illustrious career, Dr. Ponce has held numerous key positions in both private practice and academia. He has served as an Associate Professor of Surgery, a private practitioner in General and Bariatric Surgery, and as the Medical Director for Bariatric Surgery at several institutions.

Dr. Ponce has made considerable contributions to the field of bariatric surgery through his extensive involvement in various professional organizations, such as the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO), and the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC). He has held several leadership roles, including President of the ASMBS and IFSO North America Chapter, and is currently serving as the President of the IFSO North America Chapter for the 2021-2024 term.

An avid researcher and reviewer, Dr. Ponce has been involved with multiple peer-reviewed journals and has served on the editorial board of several prestigious publications. His work has been recognized with numerous awards and honors, such as the ASMBS Foundation's 2018 Master Educator Award and the CHI Memorial St. Luke’s Healer’s Heart Award Honoree.
