Professor David Nocca is an internationally recognized authority in general, digestive, endocrine, and laparoscopic surgery, with a particular focus on bariatric and upper GI surgery. Currently serving as the President of the Montpellier Obesity International Institute, he has dedicated his career to advancing the field of bariatric surgery and combating obesity on a global scale.
Professor Nocca received his MD and PhD degrees in 2008 and has since worked in various prestigious roles. His extensive experience includes serving as Director of the Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Center of Montpellier University Hospital from 2007 to 2023, and as the President of the French League Against Obesity from 2014 to 2023.
His international recognition and contributions to the field have been significant. He has been an Ambassador of the International Federation of Surgery of Obesity since 2019. In 2022, he was appointed as the Director of the International Committee of SOFFCOMM, having previously served as the Director of its scientific committee from 2013 to 2021. He was also the founder and president of the International Club of Laparoscopic Surgeons (ICYLS) from 2002 to 2005.
In 2013, Professor Nocca made a significant contribution to bariatric surgery methods by inventing the Nissen Sleeve Gastrectomy. His academic achievements include over 100 scientific papers and numerous presentations at international congresses.
Earlier in his career, he was a research fellow at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, USA, under the tutelage of Professor Gagner. He is also a renowned educator, having been a professor in the Department of Digestive Surgery at CHU Montpellier, France, since 2011.
Professor Nocca's dedication to his field extends beyond academia and practice; he is also active in live surgeries globally, having participated in 25 such events in various countries including Brazil, the UK, Spain, Belgium, and Italy.
